Lower Back Pain

Low back pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal complaints seen at our Waterloo chiropractic clinic, it is estimated 80% of the general population will experience some form of low back pain at some point in  there lives. There are many factors leading to low back pain, There are the more serious but extremely rare causes. However for the vast majority of sufferers it is what is referred to as non specific low back’, which means a major contributing factor is mechanical.

Patients often complain low back pain may which is felt as a dull ache that spreads evenly across the lower back,  more on one side, alternatively & less commonly low back pain may be felt centrally over the sacrum & spine itself.Generally speaking low back pain is often felt first thing in the morning, and improves once the pain sufferer is up & moving; indicating potentially stiff joints and muscles which improve as circulations improves, or on the contrary wakes up fine and worsens as the day goes on indicating more weakness as the body fatigues as the day progresses.

Whichever the case may be; often the localised area of pain is usually only a symptom, and the  joints  & muscles of the pelvis and spine need to be balanced; this also includes the relatively strong & powerful muscle’s of the legs and hips which hold & support the lower back, so the lower back can function pain free.

The combination of chiropractic & myotherapy (SLM) is an extremely effective form of therapy as a great deal of time & effort is applied when trying to correct the muscles which hold the pelvis in a rotated or tilted position. It is also important lifestyle factors such as, exercise and stress are also addressed to ensure long term results.
